Preventative planning for Pythium

As the summer weather approaches there is no better time to schedule your preventative pythium applications using Quali-Pro’s Gateway fungicide to protect your turf. The pythium pathogens (blight, root dysfunction, root rot, damping off) all favor HOT, HUMID weather patterns with extended periods of wet weather. It is best to limit excessive Nitrogen applications to the turf in the summer season as excess Nitrogen can fuel a rapid turf decline along with the presence of a strain of pythium.

The active ingredient of Quali-Pro Gateway is cyazofamid, which goes to work by preventing pythium spores from germinating. Gateway is a FRAC 21 fungicide that can be applied up to 3 times per year at the maximum labeled rate of 0.9 floz. / 1,000 ft2 on professionally managed turfgrass. We recommend preventative applications to manage turf as the weather conditions turn towards hot and humid weather patterns. Anticipate 7-28 days of control with a preventative application with the longevity dependent of environmental conditions. It is best to alternate FRAC codes of fungicides in a preventative program to prevent future turf disease resistant populations from developing. Quali-Pro Mefenoxam 2 AQ is a FRAC 4, which is an alternative chemical class, can be used as a rotational fungicide for pythium management in professionally managed turf.
