How to Treat and Prevent Dollar Spot

In the northern parts of the US the golf season is starting to gear up and it’s time to start thinking about preventative applications for dollar spot. Which is one of the most destructive diseases in both cool and warm season turf. An ounce of prevention goes a long way when it comes to controlling dollar spot. One of the most important strategies is controlling the inoculum (pathogen) growth in the soil. If the amount of inoculum in the soil gets too high an outbreak of dollar spot is inevitable. The timing of the first application of a preventative program is critical. One of the best ways to achieve accurate timing is by using the Smith-Kerns Dollar Spot Prediction Model (https://tdl.wisc.edu/dollar-spot-model/).

Quali-Pro has several options for the control of dollar spot, both preventatively and curatively. Flex-Guard is a preventive contact fungicide for golf course use that provides control of multiple diseases, including dollar spot. The active ingredient, Fluazinam, is the only turf fungicide classified by FRAC in Group 29. This unique class of chemistry, along with its multi-site mode of action, translates to minimal risk of fungicide resistance. If curative applications are required, partner Flex-Guard with Chlorothalonil based fungicides, this will provide quick clean up.

New call-to-action

ENCLAVE is a broad-spectrum fungicide that gives you a powerful weapon in the war on fungal diseases in turfgrass, including dollar spot. The first product of its kind in North America, ENCLAVE is formulated with Combination Chemistry that delivers effective, long-lasting protection. Strobe Pro is a combination of two broad spectrum, preventative and curative fungicides with systemic properties for the control of many important turfgrass diseases, including dollar spot.

For best results we recommend using a water carrier volume of 1.5 to 2 gallons per 1000 ft2 for fairways; and 2 gallons per 1000 ft2 for greens.
