Yellow patch affects turfgrasses from fall to spring during cloudy, cool, wet conditions and can be identified by small to medium-sized patches with yellow or reddish-brown margins.

Disease symptoms are typically limited to putting greens and collars and in severe cases, symptoms can affect multiple areas on putting surfaces.

While the damage caused by yellow patch is usually superficial and will heal on its own once warm, dry summer weather hits, its striking appearance can ruin your turf’s aesthetic.

To control and prevent yellow patch from affecting your turf, use a combination of timely fungicide application and these cultural best practices:

  • Avoiding excessive levels of nitrogen in late fall and early spring when the disease is most active
  • Improving water drainage
  • Reducing thatch accumulation through aeration and topdressing
